The Workers' Statute regulated by Royal Legislative Decree 1/1995 describes the rights of workers and employers, the general terms of employment contracts, the procedures for redundancy and rules for collective bargaining, among other aspects.
There are also specific regulations applicable to various production sectors and certain groups of workers or special labour relations, such as trade representatives and senior management personnel.
Another important source for Labour Law is the collective agreements, which can be negotiated at a company level (or lower down) or by activity sectors on a state level (or over a smaller territorial area). Employment contracts also contain stipulations governed labour relations.
All employers, their workers, self-employed workers, members of production cooperatives, domestic staff, military personnel and civil servants who live and/or operate in Spain must register and are obliged to contribute to the Spanish National Insurance system.
